Cornered Energies (2015)

I never had a self-expression freedom, never knew how to speak about myself or things I like while I was in school or outside the school, always being in a culture that looks at self-expression as a weakness, more of a self-censorship.

Still facing it as an adult, when self-introduction comes up till a person does a complimentary introduction it will be hard for me to build a sentence on that matter.

Always having second thoughts in any works I’m doing, and the way it will be perceived, non-logical fears, and me cornering myself.

Cornered Energies is about the non-existence of platforms for youth in Somaliland/Somalia, and the lack of self-expression they face, them ending being wasted energies. Photographing individuals in random spaces where they spend their daily-lifes in, I met different youth from different backgrounds to express their thoughts about being a cornered energy. The project contains photos, and audio recordings over a slideshow of the photos.
